the ewok

On Saturday we exchanged our lease car from something that closely resembles a Sherman tank, to a new Prius. And I love it. I love it even though I suspect I am the poster-girl for the stereotype. I am also a little sceptical about the 'greenness' of the lithium battery production. But I am justifying this as by my calculations it will effectively halve our petrol consumption (and costs). After a few days of life with the Ewok (so named due to the number plate), I love that:

It is surprisingly peppy. Despite attempts to remedy the situation, I have no idea how either electricity or a combustion engine works. The little Toyota elves have munged the two up, and it works.

There is no ignition. I no longer have to trawl through the tardis to find the key, as long as it’s in the car, I just push the power button and everything starts up (if only men were that easy. Oh no, wait...)

Lumber support. I sit up straight and my legs reach the pedals. No achy back.

The touch screen totally rocks. It has sat-nav and an auxiliary plug and holdy thing for my iPod. It does everything. I fully expect the next generation Prius to plug into wikipedia. And then its only a matter of time before it becomes self-aware.

The rear view camera. I can't really park. This is mainly due to a what I like to call 'spatial dyslexia'. Which means that I cannot judge directional difference and distance very well. The Ewok has a rear view camera so I don't even have to think about what should to pray over. It's awesome.

Wow! I remember the first time I got in a Prius belonging to a friend of mine, and I thought it had died when we came to a stop because it was totally quiet! Congratulations on becoming the proud owner of an ewok, this is awesome. Expect more stories about this new baby.

Lucky girl - I'm just off to get a train and hoping there will actually be one.

I now officially have Pius-envy

Ooh, I TOTALLY have spatial dyslexia.

Maybe I need that rear mirror thing, and also something that helps with the FRONT of the car too.

If they just would make a really long retractable extension cord then... Oh I guess that would only work if you were the only driver plugged in.
